Welcome to Puerto Vallarta

When we were researching buying a property in Puerto Vallarta, we had a lot of questions...

  • Is it safe?
  • How about weather in the summer?
  • Will we be welcomed?
  • What should my budget be?
  • Healthcare?
  • We are here now and happy to answer these questions and more!

My name is Trent Steffen, and I am part of a team at Boardwalk Realty in Puerto Vallarta.  My husband David Weeks and I have been visiting Vallarta for 20 years, and three years ago we moved to the bay full time.  We love it!

We love the people, the food, the beautiful scenery, the water and the mountains!  You don’t have to speak Spanish to visit or live here, but it really helps, and the locals really appreciate you learning their language.  We are taking Spanish classes three times per week and just LOVE it!

In addition to being a beautiful location – and one consistently ranked at the top of the list of best and safest places to live in Mexico – it is easy for foreigners to buy real estate here, and to hold the deed in a bank of their choosing.  The rules surrounding real estate purchases are slightly different than in the US, Canada or Europe, and our team is prepared to walk you through the process legally, accurately and efficiently.

From finding properties that suit you, all the way through closing – as well as getting you set up with the utilities you need – we have a professional team that includes lawyers, home inspectors and agents – everything you need from a top flight real estate organization.

For non Mexican citizens, Mexico is a mostly cash real estate market.  We suggest Mexlend for those clients interested in mortgages. Mexlend has been offering Loans for US and Canadian Citizens for over 14 years.  They are the oldest and most experienced brokerage in Mexico.

Many people retire here full time, and there are so many things to do that you just won’t believe it!  We do a lot of fun things, and we also volunteer with a school that teaches English to locals, thereby helping them obtain more lucrative jobs.  There are many other opportunities to give back to the local population here as well.

Property taxes here are incredibly attractive – we are only paying 1.5% of what our property taxes were when we were living in the States.  And no, that is not a typo.  One point five percent.  And as if that were not enough, if you pay before January 15th each year, you get 15% off.  And if you are over 65, you get another 15% off.  Pretty good, right?
